Over the past 12 months, CASA and the GFA have been working on a Safety Management System (SMS) to develop and embed a safety culture in club organisation activities for both flying operations and in fact for all club activities. The GFA developed templates for Club Safety Management Plans (SMP) , Emergency Response Plans and other associated documents which have been used to produce Beaufort’s Safety Management System (SMS). The newly formed Safety Committee (SC) comprises of Colin Adam, Accountable Manager and President; David Cleland, Club Safety Officer; Hugh Champness, Deputy Club Safety Officer; Chris Thorpe, CFI; Gordon Trollip, Airworthiness Officer and will meet at least 4 times pa. The role of the SC includes operational safety, the management of hazard identification and the mitigation of these risks or corrective actions. If any members. The SC has approved Beaufort’s SMS and the documents are linked below. These website documents will be kept up to date and be the latest revisions. I ask all members to take the time to familiarise yourselves with our SMS. Safety is the responsibility of all members. The documents will take some time to review. To assist members with this familiarisation, we will be conducting training series during winter on Saturdays and Sundays for members. Details will be advised at a later date. In addition to the SMS system, check lists and operational rules have been developed for our pie/golf carts and also for the induction of visitors. These documents are straight forward and will be forwarded to you by email. The pie/golf cart daily check lists and operational rules are now fixed to these carts for all to read. David Cleland |
